My Books

I’ve always considered myself a writer for performance, rather than for the page, but I do have a couple of books that I’m really proud of.

It’s been really cool getting to travel around and share these with people & I’m always up for a performance if you think there’d be the chance to sell books afterwards.

I still mostly write pieces to be heard out loud, (rather than read) but you’ll be seeing more books from me in the future too, I’d say. At least one book per year for the next decade is the plan - let’s see how I do!

Rhinos Don’t Cry

Oh wow! This was a cool project - I had this idea about a little Rhino called Milo. He’d decided he wouldn’t cry any more. Fortunately Bloomsbury liked the idea so much that ‘Rhinos Don’t Cry’ is out in the shops & online.

Milo's a rhino.
He likes to do all sorts of rhino-y things . . .
He likes writing and climbing
and banister-sliding
and mountain bike riding,
he paints and he sings.

Milo justloves being a rhino – but there's one small problem . . . rhinos don't cry.
At least that's what Spike-O Mcree, his movie-star hero, always says.
But when Milo meets Spike-O face to face, he finds out that not only is crying OK, it's also very brave!

This one is available worldwide - I’m kind of blown away by the reviews! Thanks to everyone who’s messaged - I’ve really enjoyed hearing from teachers, parents & younger readers who’ve been enjoyed Milo’s story.

The book is illustrated by Chris Jevons, is the first in a new series & is available to buy here.

Rogue Teacher

This is my first full collection of poetry for adults & teenagers - it’s published by Burning Eye Bookks & there’s quite a few pieces from my live shows for adults & my Youtube Channel, including my poem ‘Girl who Reads’ that went viral and won a couple of international awards.

The collection also contains pieces from my live show Rogue Teacher, which had a sold-out run at The Edinburgh Fringe in 2012 & has since toured over 550 locations in the UK. ‘Rogue Teacher’ is currently in development as a feature film with Studio Canal. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes!

Oh, and this book is illustrated by my good friend Guy Larsen - you can find out more about Guy’s work with his film company, Penny4, here.

If you’d like to buy a copy you can get hold of one here, via Burning Eye Books or just collar me after a live show.
